A Day at Blair Castle
More clouds than sun today but still lovely as we made our way to Blair Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Atholl. It encompasses 120,000 acres of Highland Perthshire and the main part was built in 1275. The duke has the only private army in Europe, the Atholl Highlanders (Extra) The family was divided during the Jacobite Uprising with half supporting Bonnie Prince Charlie and the other the King. I saw a set of pipes used at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. (Third extra) So much history. After lunch at the castle, we toured the gardens, which are lovely and expansive. (Second extra) Henry posed at the foot of Hercules, can you see him? He insisted we make the photo safe for general audiences though. Home now and enjoying a glass of wine while Diane prepares another sumptuous feast. I’m so spoiled!
