Allium Siculum, Honey Garlic.

Allium Siculum. I planted a few more last Autumn as the bees love them.
They look so unusual when they are flowering!
We’ve had the two eldest grandchildren here this morning. Stephen picked them up at 9:20am and I took them back at 12:30pm.
They each baked a batch of scones in turn, one with raisins, one without.
I then had the original handwritten diary in which my dad had documented his time serving in the Army Pay Corps in London where he was sent after he voluntarily joined up in 1938 at Preston Barracks when a young man of 20.
He was there during the Blitz and I found the diary when I was visiting him up in Rawtenstall in 2007.
. I discovered it when I was clearing out some old drawers in his back bedroom.
It was pushed right to the back.
In its pages a young man of 20 appears.
He was billeted with a couple called Mr and Mrs Bourne.
I began to read it, but as he had hidden it I decided to take it downstairs and ask him if he minded.
“You can read it, but I don’t want to hear it at all myself, throw it away if you like”.
I read it and in it he had documented what life was like in London at that time. Describing bombing raids and their effects so graphically.
At one point saying as the bombs were raining down, “What a way to celebrate my 21st birthday.”
I said to him that it was an important part of our family history, and needs to be preserved to show our children and subsequent grandchildren.
He said I could do what I liked with it.
After he died in 2010, I found a small publishing firm who would take it on.
I typed out the original, and included photos, and then took photos of all the original pages so they could be included.
I gave it to them to read, and told them how dad, who would’ve been their Great Grandad, always wanted to be a journalist. We had a chat about him then, and looked at some old photos.
They both decided to write an article each as if it was for a newspaper. Choosing their own subjects.
I enjoyed reading them!
Well it’s teatime now, so I’ll stop here.
A beautiful evening outside, and no rain again today.
I’m a bit behind catching up with comments but enjoy looking at your photos and leaving stars.
Some photos in extras.
