On A Mission

The blue tit parents in both nest boxes have been very busy today. The chicks are only days from fledging and are demanding lots of food. In the camera bird box today the chicks have been doing a lot of feather preening. I've seen one practise wing flapping, but that's not started in earnest yet.

This morning I had someone round to quote for new blinds for three windows and to quote for proper fly screens at the back door and patio door. He was helpful and knowledgeable, much nicer than the previous person from another company who quoted. This afternoon the sun returned and I sat in the garden reading the paper. That is until a huge flatbed lorry with a 'crane' on the back reversed slowly down the road the  other side of my back fence, going forwards and back several times until he got it right. The road there is a narrow private road and the manoeuvre wasn't helped by work going on at another bungalow in the road, which had a van butting out into the road. The next 20 mins was spent unloading lots of building materials. As the driver started moving off, one of the blue tits arrived ready to deliver food, it had obviously been watching and waiting to deliver it! This evening the food deliveries in the camera nest box have been pretty constant, no wonder the parents are looking a bit bedraggled.
