Damsels In Distress
The parent blue tit was calling and feeding the chirruping chicks just after six this morning. I got stuck into some frustrating online admin and when I couldn't sort it, ended up in tears when I finally got a kind person to deal with it for me on the telephone.
I went outside at 10:30 to check on my birds. All was quiet. At 11:00 I had a peep inside the box. They had flown. :( I felt bereft.
I decided to to take Mish to Fishers Green after lunch to cheer myself up. A band of male banded demioselles was displaying for the benefit of females over the Old River Lea. One of them caught a red-eyed damselfly and then another red-eyed joined the fray. I know that banded demoiselles feed on insects that they catch on the wing but I was surprised about damsel on damsel action.
