We talk and write about "our lake, our hill, our coffee spot" etc. We don't actually own any of these places but we use them a lot, they are a part of our lives, and no-one objects so in a way they are definitely "ours".
And that's probably the way these crows see our garden. For them this is their garden. They built their nest in the top of a tree very close by, sometime in the early spring and I guess they have chicks up there now so there's a lot of foraging going on, and our short lawn seems to be ideal for them. They ignore the robo-mower, trundling around the lawn in its random wanderings. They also ignore us as we go about our random wanderings. Even the slamming of the camper van's side door wasn't enough to make them look up, far less take fright.
I'm very happy to share our garden with these large birds, though I will be putting nets over the berry bushes when the time arrives!
