Until recently there were many windmills on the 850m high Lassiti Plateau making it the first largest and most beautiful wind farm in the world with approximately 13000 windmills with a total installed power of above 5MW. Most were small and originally made of wood or metal with white sails and used to pump water for irrigation but many have been abandoned in recent times in favour of modern diesel and electric pumps. On the edge of the plateau are the remains of some of the stone windmills.
