Pictorial blethers

Journey's End?

Well - maybe for now. Back home under rather grey skies, having left Edinburgh in a chilly wind and Neil's car (I think that's an example of zeugma). Back in Dunoon it even tried a few experimental drops of rain as we left the house to go supermarket shopping, but by the time we'd finished they'd vanished and the afternoon ended in warm sunshine. I didn't actually take any photos today except for a series of letters that I may use in another post in some form or another, so my collage comes from last evening when we were all dozing in front of the telly. Po the dog dotes on Arthur, one of the two white cats, and he's gazing adoringly at him as he sits on Himself's knee (Po actually tries smiling at the cat). The cat in the photo is however Oreo, who was sleeping on my feet at the time - I thought he looked rather sweet. In the absence of any grandchildren to be photographed today, they'll have to do. (Alan was sleeping off his exertions of yesterday; his brother is away at a school outdoor camp for ten days, as is his cousin Anna.)

So we were dropped off at McInroy's point and hauled our cases down the ramp - the crewman stopped the cars for us! - and called a taxi as we set sail. Our immediate needs were fulfilled once again by a food parcel from our daughter-in-law (scones, a savoury cake, a fish pie for dinner) but I had a craving for vegetables, so the supermarket trolley was half full of them before I got anything else. (The food in Italy was lovely, but there was a lack of greens - I really felt that we ate only tomatoes and the fruit at breakfast, which is not my usual diet!)

Shopping over, we tackled the double whammy of unpacking two lots of stuff - the big cases that had been left half-empty in the hall, plus what we'd taken to Edinburgh. Finally we felt free to sit in the last of the sun at the back door and drink gin and tonic while the fish pie warmed in the oven. And then we subsided in a somnolent heap in front of the telly. I have vague memories of the News - it'd be good to think the Europe-wards movement continued. Richard Tice made me snarl just a little - does he not live in Dubai?

Enough. I'm too tired (again) for politics or coherent thought tonight. And maybe soon I'll get back to reading your journals - you've all been lovely while I've been away.

Night night...
