9.30 in the evening

Still some light in the sky, and the air feels lovely. Now three roses are on the fence - one is mine - the pink one. The white one next to it comes over the fence from next door, as does the one on the left, which as you can hopefully see is covered in hundreds and hundreds of buds.  It’s an amazing sight every year. Two neighbours ago, next door belonged to the professor of Botany at Bristol Uni, and he planted some wonderful things. And my current neighbour is pretty good at pruning them right.
As I look out of the window now ( the next morning) I’m watching a little blue tit doing the rounds of the roses, kindly eating the aphids.
I do need to paint that fence though….
I went to the garden centre in the morning, mainly to pick up more compost, but also a couple more plants for pots, and I treated myself to two little perennials, which will need intensive protection from the slugs.  Some more beer traps needed I  think. A lot less around at present in this very dry period, but I’m sure they are lurking and will reappear in droves once we get a drop of rain.
