(139) BRRRRRRR!!!
I was persuaded to drive along to Cellardyke today to try a dip in the tidal pool. I haven't swum in the sea for years and the weather here has been warm and sunny so I decided 'why not?' Of course, the weather had to break today and warm sunshine was replaced by grey skies, a stiff easterly breeze and temperatures barely into double figures. Undaunted, we parked and walked to the pool. I climbed down the ladder until waist deep in the water and decided that it was too cold for me so I got out again. My daughter took two attempts and about five minutes to slowly lower herself into the pool but my son was fully in the water in seconds. I decided I couldn't give up so easily so tried again. Getting waist deep was easy but from there it was a slow descent with a lot of effort required to control my breathing and get accustomed to the temperature. However, I did manage to get myself fully into the pool and then swim around for about ten minutes which did feel pretty good but was enough for me. Once dried and dressed again I reckon it took about a half hour for me to return from various shades of blue to my normal colour. I can see the attraction of cold water swimming and I might have another go but I can't see this being a regular occurrence.
