Nature takes away and nature gives back again

During last summer our big damson tree yielded a bumper crop of fruit, from which we are still enjoying the jams. Then in the winter a high wing smashed the tree, breaking it over just above the ground. Disaster?
Not quite, because the little tree which grew beside it now has all the air and light to itself and is blossoming beautifully. If not this year, then possibly next we will see enough fruit with which to make more jam.
