Sarapsa Han

A beautiful day again, sunny, warm and calm.

I did get up early, but fell back to sleep, the sunshine must be tiring me out here.  My plans to catch a bus into Alanya were put on hold.  A day lounging by the pool, along with the occasional dip.  I went for a walk around the resort in the afternoon.  I'm missing a stroll around bars and cafés in the evening, there really is just nothing but massive hotels here and souvenir shops.

I was shocked this afternoon, when I came across an old building, thought I found and old town to explore but this was it (for now).  I can't find out much information about it, but seems to be listed as a Seljuk caravanserai, a place not only for food and shelter, but also an opportunity for merchants and other travellers to exchange goods, access markets and meet others from vast regions encompassed by the silk road.  Dating back to the 13th century, it was built in the reign of Sultan Giyaseddin Keyhüsrev II between 1237-1246AD.  Sadly it's no longer open, been vandalised and a hot-spot for vagrants.  The once beautiful Sarapsa Han, Konakli, Alanya, Turkey.
