Common names include Blue pinkgill and sky-blue mushroom.

I know it as ‘Blue Fungi’

This stunning fungi, one of New Zealand’s most iconic native mushrooms can be found featured on our $50.00 bank note. 

They are found in native bush, usually hiding from hot sunshine and often amongst spongy moss. 

Today was spent several hours in the Abel Tasman National Park at Tinlines, enjoying perfect sunny autumn weather - and photographing fungi. 

We went specifically to find these rather scarce blue fungi and we weren’t disappointed, finding eight in total.

The collage shows the variations of colour, and the gills of one past its best and revealing the beautiful blue gills.

Tomorrow I will share a selection of other delights discovered amongst the cool damp bush.
