Early start this morning to drive to the foothills of the Greater Caucasus and the ancient city of Shamakhi. Although our 'yoghurt making' experience turned out to be watching the lady churn some butter their yoghurt was delicious. We then visited Juma Mosque, the oldest in Azerbaijan. It was originally built in 743 but has been destroyed and rebuilt several times with the current structure completed in 2013
Next was the village of Lahic. The village is famous for it's copperwork but I was a tad concerned that the rocking horses came with rifles.
Finally on to Qabala for an ASPI vineyard visit. Tasted 4 Savalan wines and the Azerbaijani version of grappa but we weren't impressed enough to buy any.
