Saying it flowers!

These are the blooms we have bought for our friend Polly's birthday. However, she is on holiday for a week so we are going to have to nurture them until she gets home , I've brought them inside this evening in case the promised heavy rain arrives in the night and damages the blooms. Having spent the day trying out my plant first aid skills on what is left of our plants I don't want to take any risks.
The holly standard that I was given for my 60th birthday has shed about 50% of its foliage with more falling off each day and the two Guelder Rose trees that arrived as bare rooted whips and have been lovingly nurtured for at least a couple of years have lost all their leaves. I feel really disheartened about the losses but realise how very trivial  it is compared to the terrible happenings around the world.
I'm going to retreat now and watch this weeks , "Have I got News for you." and hopefully find something in the news that makes us laugh .
