Sausage and Onion $3.50

I was called on to assist at the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle again today.
I was on cooking duty which I quite like but it takes more concentration than you would think. The main challenge is not running out when there is a sudden surge of customers so you have to put plenty on even if it seems slow at the time.

Bunnings have strict rules for charity groups selling on their premises. The menu must consist only of sausages and/or onions on unbuttered bread (not rolls), soft drinks or water. Price $3.50. A variety of sauces is permitted, but most importantly the optional onion must go under, not on top of, the sausage. Apparently someone dropped some and tripped on it once resulting in an insurance claim. You are also supposed to call on staff to restart the BBQ if it goes out but we did it ourselves today.

We sold all but 4 of 260 but were there till 3pm, later than usual. It's quite a pleasant social event, and more productive than sitting around in a cafe and chatting.

For those not in Australian, Bunnings is very big hardware chain.
