Growing, Growing, Gone
A quick summary of Thursday, as I didn’t write about what I did in my blip. A few of us stayed in The Exchange for lunch after communion and coffee. I also walked up to the other end of Tiptree with two more plaque engraving orders for the jewellers. After lunch, Alison and I went back to Linda’s to start doing the CofE online safeguarding course, which you have to complete if you’re a PCC committee member. We had immense difficulties even creating accounts for ourselves, and in the end we only managed to complete Part 1. The rest will have to wait until after the Bank Holiday weekend. Best part of the afternoon by far was eating the wonderful Victoria sponge cake Linda had made.
I had nothing in the diary for Friday, so got some bits and pieces done in the morning which included walking up to St Luke’s to collect another application form for a memorial plaque from the letter rack. I created a draft layout for the family when I got home. The awnings chap phoned to say mine had arrived from the manufacturers, and we pencilled in a couple of provisional dates next week, depending on the weather (it wouldn’t be reasonable to expect them to install it in a howling gale and/or a downpour of rain).
In the afternoon I got out in the garden and was horrified at how much all the weeds had grown. Why do they thrive in the dry conditions, and yet the plants you actually want struggle?? The only ones that keep going despite neglect are the roses (see photo), so I think there will be more of those planted as I slowly sort things out and get the garden into shape. I took out a lot of brambles from under the enormous foliage, so that has gone into the big brown garden waste bin and filled it two-thirds full already. I also got out the shears and tidied up three bushes (having checked them for birds nesting). It’s frustrating that it will be too wet for the next few days to get on with more clearing and tidying. Plenty to do indoors, though - I don’t have time to be bored!
