Many of the streets in Funchal are very narrow and steep, so this kind of manouvre can be necessary when driving around. Daníel and my mother stepped out of the way and stood with their back pressed against a wall while the car drove past - and I snapped a photo :)

Today we walked up to Fortaleza de São João Baptista do Pico, the fort built in the early 17th century.  Great views and the surrounding area is also interesting.
