All together now . . .

Spent this morning helping put new polythene on a neighbours' polytunnel. It was a joint effort, there were eight of us, two of whom had done this tricky procedure before, and we were all needed. It was quite a job, but very satisfying, especially when we realised we had got it the right side out (yes, it has an inner and outer side)!

We then buried all the edges and filled the trenches with soil, making sure it was taut and even and then cut out the doorways. Nerve wracking, taking the scissors to it, so we left that to Jimmy, the owner! When we'd finished we were treated to lunch of sausage rolls, ham sandwiches, shortbread and tiffin! Happy workers!

I walked past with Ollie this afternoon and Jimmy was busy raising the hoops inside as the polythene stretched in the sun, thus ensuring it was stretched to its maximum. If the old tunnel was anything to go by, we'll be eating fresh vegetables from this before long, as they are very generous gardeners and give away most of what they produce!

Their poor old cat, who usually sleeps in the tunnel during the day, was ousted for the duration and given temporary quarters in the spare bedroom!
