Dirigible.
Dirigible as a noun is an Airship, and as an adjective means capable of being steered, guided or directed.
I suppose that means the Hindenburg was a Dirigible dirigible.
User Tagimo recently mentioned the Hindenburg in one of his entries which prompted me to look at one of my books on the Hindenburg.
Today’s entry is one of the illustrations which shows the airship with its hanger in the background.
I have also attached a photo of the Barnes Wall biography which shows his airship, the R100. The biography is by J E Morpurgo.
The demise of the Hindenburg at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, is recorded in Herbert Morrison’s radio report and this together with the graphic photographs shattered public confidence in airship travel. This marked the abrupt end of the ‘airship era’.
