Tunnel.
Yesterday we returned north after a weekend of seeing family. Smashing. My grandson wanted to show us what he could do on his scooter. A trip to the Cyclopark at Gravesend was called for. This is a very large park geared up up for different cycling disciple and this includes a skateboard park. I was pleasantly surprised at his confidence-the last time I was there he fell off! Leaving there and along the A2, M2 and then the M25 you come to the Blackwall Tunnels. These were there when I was working in Kent, but now both 'run' northwards as the QE11 bridge carries traffic southwards. The cost is £2.50 per crossing, paid on-line. Gone are the original toll booths. (Discounts available for regular users.) Just about to enter the mile long entrance under the Thames (Planet Rock radio programme can still be heard the full length of the tunnel, (amazing) when there can be signal break in a much shorter and a less deep tunnel a few miles further on! Anyway a change in the weather-sunny but with a cool wind. The rest of the journey was fine until Cumbria where the 'traditional weather' of rain fell! Much needed, but just 'a drop in the ocean.' Howgill Fells covered in low cloud, so the beautiful scenery of the Lune Gorge couldn't be seen, except for the heart-shaped wood (Broken Gill Wood) on the eastern side, planted by a farmer in memory of his wife or a memorial to an airman or a Romeo and Juliet syndrome of two lovers forbidden to meet, found dead-suicide or murder? There is a booklet about this section of the M6: M6 England's Scenic Motorway, Short Journey Breaks, Peter Johnson.
