St John's Garden
it was like a temperate rainforest in the garden today as the steady rain fell. The pond and the tree ferns loved it.
We have come to London for one day to attend a meeting about how to improve the environment for pollinating insects in Clerkenwell. A project has been active in the City of London for 5 years, combining the expertise of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners and Reading University, and it is going to be extended to Clerkenwell.
The idea is to survey pollinating insects and work out what increases and decreases their numbers, so that all the little parks and gardens, and even all the roof gardens and balconies, can become more welcoming spaces and eventually create green corridors across the city. About 30 people turned up, all of whom are volunteering in one of the many community supported gardens. They brought with them a huge range of experience and a great deal of enthusiasm. It was very motivating!
