Today's the day

Grassland

Today's the day ...................... for a host of yellow

A small miracle has happened here today - or rather, it has probably been happening for a few weeks, we just happened to notice it today.

Seemingly from out of nowhere, we have a veritable jungle of the wonderful yellow rattle - an annual plant that thrives in grasslands, living a semi-parasitic life by feeding off the nutrients in the roots of nearby grasses.  In so doing, it eventually allows more delicate, traditional species to push their way through - which is just what we want.

So we're very excited about it and hope that it keeps seeding itself in the future.  And then, who knows which other wild flowers will decide to join it - and spread the joy ......................!
