Unfinished Business
Today's photo is the tiny fairy village at the garden center we can almost walk to. I needed a new pair of garden gloves and John wanted some deer repellant spray for the roses at the bottom of our driveway. We were going to take them out but the spray, which is non-toxic and doesn't harm any animals, works quite well. All we have to remember to do is spray the roses every couple of weeks.
I'm not quite sure what one does with an entire village of fairies, but there are shelves full of them underneath the display on the table. They are tiny and quite colorful. There are three or four of them lurking in various pots around here, a remnant of our granddaughter Maya's visits when she was a little girl. Now he is our grandson Eden, in college, and with no interest in these little winged people (although the one in the green dress at the right looks like a force to be reckoned with.
Our larder is empty so I cleared out and washed the decaying remains of lettuce and zucchini from the vegetable bins and then dashed off to get a much needed haircut. John forgot to put the vacuum cleaner in the car, and I forgot to remind him, so it didn't get dropped off at the repair place on the way home.
The inner gas tank cover, which is taped closed with gorilla tape, doesn't stay if it's in the sun so John was going to go by Hammond Autowerks and ask why it is taking the 6 weeks to fix the latch and paint the outer door. He decided he could be more persuasive if he went there rather than use the phone, but he couldn't do that because I had the car.
It's warm and windy and there are starting to be dire warnings about fire danger later in the week so I decided to get on with my pruning of the olive tree, but something swirling around in the air was making my eyes itch and water so I came inside and made a partial shopping list for John. I'm feeling singularly uninspired about cooking so it's hard to generate any kind of useful list. We're going out to dinner so I guess we'll save the shopping for another day too.
The quail are talking up a storm underneath the bird feeder. They sound a bit like the squirrel who is too busy decimating the bird seed to make much noise. There are a lot of birds around and That Damn Bird is back, so I put double sided tape on the decorative branch hanging on the porch wall that she was perching on. That seems to be the best deterrent we've tried so far....The turkeys are around, but they seem to have formed their flock and there are no itinerant ones appearing at our front door. They just maraud around our front lawn for seeds. It is rapidly drying out since we don't water it much and the rains have virtually stopped until October.
Our garden is producing lots of broccoli so the fridge isn't completely empty. Broccoli soup?
