Life is a Challenge!

MUSINGS ON A WINDY DAY

Mr. HCB has been out in the garden since before 8 o’clock on this wild and windy morning.  Fortunately, he is working in the greenhouse so isn’t out in the cold wind.  However, I decided that I would go out and take a few flower shots, but it was quite difficult because the wind was blowing the flowers all over the place.

Sometimes, it’s just a question of waiting until that particular gust calms down and then trying to get the best shot before it starts gusting again;  patience is not my best attribute, but this morning I decided I needed to be more patient.

The top shot is a little bee, I think a white-tailed one, that landed on the Aquilegia and got right inside, so the wind didn’t disturb it too much.

The second shot is a fly balancing on one of the petals of our blue Iris - I thought it looked as if it was “wing-walking” and wondered if its feet had something that enabled it to stand firm.

Both these little insects “spoke” to me - the bee seemed to be saying that I needed to stop thinking about myself and get into situations where I could help others - and not just on the surface, but to dive right in so that I could do things much more effectively.

The fly was definitely encouraging me to “stand firm” and despite all that is happening in my life, to look to God, and to my many friends, for my help and my health and strength.  It is so easy to get bogged down in the negative things in our lives, particularly as we get older, and to think that we are not as useful as we once were.  But I believe that we need to be willing to adapt to the different seasons in our lives and will then reap the rewards.

During this particular season for me, I have been learning to be more dependent on others and must admit that I have found that very hard, as I am normally a very independent person.  But we haven’t been called to live in isolation and I know that there is still a lot of life left to live and a lot more people I can help and who can help me.

If a 102 year old doctor can say this, then being that much younger than she is, I should be able to say it too!

“What if the longer things take the better they are...
what if instead of chasing youth and lost time
we could embrace the aging process?
Making space for our lives
to get better and better as they go along...”
Gladys McGarey

“My past has not
     defined me,
          destroyed me,
               deterred me, or
                    defeated me;
it has only strengthened me.”
