Ferry to Devonport

When I was still a secondary school student, I would travel by bus to Auckland from Hamilton to play sport against Westlake College, a school in Takapuna on Auckland's North Shore which opened the same year as did my school (Fairfield College). On arrival in Auckland we crossed the harbour by ferry, along with the bus. The Harbour Bridge was still to be finished.

Now, the regular ferry from downtown to Devonport is a passenger only ferry, taking no more than 15 - 20 minutes to cross the harbour. A car trip in peak traffic hours would take at least twice and more likely three times as long.

This evening, along with good friends, S and I went to a restaurant in the Ferry Building for an end of week and combined birthday dinner (not mine; S is one of those whose birthday was this week). As we arrived this ferry was filling up and nearly ready to depart.

It was a lovely meal in great company, and a pleasant end to a tiring week.
