Beckhampton (Tuesday 27th May 2025)
I thought I would return to Nash Road to see the longstone Adam. It lies at the entrance to the neolithic Beckhampton Avenue, which links to the henge at Avebury. Adam is the only remaining sarsen stone of four that made up Longstones Cove at the end of the avenue.
Behind it is Eve, which is similarly the last visible remnant of the Avenue. The two stones are known as the Beckhampton Longstones.
The field consists of grassland sown with a variety of native chalk grassland wildflowers intended to attract butterflies, invertebrates and farmland birds.
The stones were erected circa 2,500 BC. William Stukely made drawings of Beckhampton Avenue that were published in 1743 but much of it was demolished in his lifetime to use as building material, to such a degree that many archaeologists did not believe that it had ever existed. However, the Longstones Project that took place between 1999 and 2003 proved that it had and found three intact buried stones, briefly revealed before being buried again. They also found that the Cove had been constructed on top of the site of an earlier oval longstones Enclosure.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms (recorded November 1984 - March 1985, Montserrat)
I recently bought an audio Blu-ray of this album, with Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes as well as the stereo CD and vinyl mixes. I hadn't heard it for a very long time although I knew it very well. The remixes are superbly done.
