Barrel Restoration
We had a very interesting visit to the Speyside Cooperage near Aberlour today. They restore over 100,000 barrels a year supplying the mainly local distilleries, and employ 50 people. The coopers are highly skilled, creating about 35 barrels a day; it's piece work but they apparently make excellent money allowing them to retire in their 50s. A necessity for most given the physically demanding nature of the work.
Later we had a walk to the Glenmulliach lookout on the Glenlivet Estate near Tomintoul (extras). Great views but rather boring route.
