San Diego
The baseball was fun last night, it was good to see a well behaved crowd of people without any drunken behaviour from spectators. You are only allowed to bring in a small handbag, 5X7 inches, that small size so it's too small to hold a firearm. We also observed snipers in the top tower of the stadium. I had to leave my handbag in a locker as it exceeded the bag size. We also notice how Americans show their patriotism so much more than the British do, which is good to see. We could do with some more national pride in the UK, and not just with football.
This morning we had a more leisurely start, the boys and I went to the gym and then we had a delicious breakfast at the lodge. The weather was cool and cloudy today, and it even rained lightly later on. We took the trolley to downtown San Diego to explore the city. From what we can understand there are distinct areas rather than a central main area. We firstly visited Little Italy which we all liked very much. It is clean, has attractive modern buildings and very pretty with the purple Jacaranda trees in bloom. Then we walked through Embarcadero to Navy Pier to see the large statue of Embracing Peace near the museum of the naval aircraft carrier USS Midway. On to the Gas Lamp area which was a bit disappointing with some shops and restaurants closed down, but there were some quaint old buildings too, which can be seen in the extras. We got the trolley back to Little Italy to have lunch. I find the food portions so large here but having the boys around means I can eat half of my dish and they happily finish it off for me!
We then hopped on the trolley again to The Old Town which was the birth place of California. It had many touristy Mexican restaurants and shops but was good to see.
Using the trolley to get around has been so useful, it’s very efficient as it’s similar to a tram and the stations are well placed right amongst the shops and buildings.
Luke had to leave by 4.30pm to fly back to London. He is back at work on Friday starting with a 6.30am meeting, a bit brutal when you are jet lagged!
Adam has been back at work today but we are now off to meet him for supper.
