Well dressing

Trip to Tissington with a friend to see the preparations for well dressing in the village, a practice that has its roots in pagan times but is also linked to the belief that the village escaped the ravages of the Black Death in the 14th century because of the purity of its water supplies.
It’s something I’ve long wanted to see but never got round to. I’m away when they’re actually on display but we hoped to see them being made. We did. In a farmyard we found two women hard at work on two displays with Paddington and Wallace and Gromit. Very intricate and hours of work involved. I must try to visit when they are in situ next year!
