ANOTHER BUSY DAY AT THE COMMUNITY FRIDGE...
...which is one reason we always start with prayer at 10.55 a.m. before all the customers come in - because we know we couldn’t do all we do in our own strength!
We had lots of produce today, as you can see and we still have lots of potatoes! You can see the lovely Rosa and her friend and neighbour, Angie, working on the potatoes - they did sterling work again and I doubt they will want to see another potato for a very long time!
Meg, our resident comedienne, was wearing a badge today that said “My name is Julie - for 1 week only!” That was because she was doing the jobs that Julie usually does, while Julie is on holiday. I was also intrigued to see Meg’s two boxes - so she told me that when the children come she asks them to do “High 5, Fist Punch and Finger Touch” and then gets them to shout out “I love my Mum” or “Liverpool is best!” If they do all that, then they get a chocolate or sweet out of one or both of the boxes. She was delighted today when one of the children of a Chinese lady who comes to the Community Fridge gave her a special hanging item for her car that had “You’ll Never Walk Alone” printed on it - in English, I might add. There were other Chinese characters, so I hope they were all as complimentary!
There was a good atmosphere again today and as Justin, one of our Community Fridge customers, had a birthday a few days ago, Hilary had kindly made him a chocolate cake, which was delicious! Justin, always stays afterwards to help clear up, along with Ben and Declan, but left earlier today because he had his granddaughters staying with him for the week. We do appreciate the help that the various men give us, and it means we can get away earlier.
It is good to get to know all our Community Fridge customers and I like to think that they go away with a smile on their faces - and not only from being able to collect their free food. We did say today, jokingly, that if they didn’t all have potatoes in their bags, then we would be locking the doors until they took some!
I must admit, after a busy morning, I did have a little nap in my chair when I got home - but now it’s time to cook our evening meal - I think a quick jacket potato - and some salad from the garden will do us this evening. Mr. HCB, of course, is enjoying watching the cricket on the television, so he won’t mind what he has, as long as it’s edible! M xx ;-)
