Reflecting
It's a public holiday today, but we managed to keep ourselves busy. S tidied up the garden. I sorted through the fridge and found four jars of starter in various stages of, er, maturity. I made some pasta dough with some of it. Still loads left. S was responsible for lunch, so I suggested he make a quiche. He said yes, so I used some more starter to make pastry. Later, he raved about how smooth and easy to roll the pastry was, and it took me a surprisingly long time to realise that with two similar looking blobs of resting dough in the fridge, he was rolling out the pasta dough ... oops. Lucky escape! He made a massive quiche lorraine -- the filling was very good, and the pastry wasn't bad either.
Then I remembered the jar of starter that was sitting on top of the router. Argh! Nothing for it -- make yet more bread! (I already made two loaves yesterday, one now in the freezer). So some dough was started -- I've pretty much exhausted my flour supply now.
In the early evening, it was apero in the garden again (blip). Left over quiche, followed by strawberries marinated in orange liqueur. The birds were twittering madly as usual. The Merlin app identified a golden oriole -- I was sceptical. Then I played the Merlin recording of said bird, and was convinced. So was the real oriole apparently -- we didn't hear it again after that. Later we heard but didn't see the woodpecker.
Back home for cheese and crackers. At which point I realised we are nearly out of sourdough crackers and it would have been so much easier to use the last jar of starter for that. Then I remembered the pasta dough still sitting in the fridge, partially rolled out, and got the pasta machine out to make tagliatelle. Bread dough now in the fridge! I'm too tired to do any more baking.
