Cheltenham
Near the race course, now settling into our second housesit looking after a dear little dog with his mum and dad showing us where to walk, all very pleasant.
We left Bristol this morning and drove mostly on smaller roads towards Cheltenham, stopping off at Keynsham for food (that’s Horace Batchelor Keynsham spelt K E Y N S H A M, Bristol. That’s for all Radio Luxembourg listeners of the 60’s). Of course when waiting for food to arrive the other adverts came to mind, John Collier the window to watch and a shirt, was it Raelbrook? Any more? John is better at remembering. So, the famous K place was a place to go, or not. It’s strange how the adverts stayed with us, I had a perdio popsy transistor where we could listen to Luxembourg in the evening. Prior to that it was the wireless, I’m sure Luxembourg was on the settings but hopeless to find a sound although fine for The Archers.
Onto Chipping Sodbury to look at a van, we miss the Hymer, although within minutes of arriving at the sales place the vehicle was dismissed by both of us, a shame, we would like to buy British.
My first proper job was an assistant chef in a hotel in Wotton-Under-Edge, we drove through there today a few times trying to remember the area. I eventually found the hotel, it is not how I remember it, anyway we called in and yes it was the right place. It was a smart place in the late 60’s, the place to eat, although I cringe when thinking about some of the food produced. On to Cheltenham to see my lovely sister for an hour before meeting our new charge for the weekend.
John now has a cold as well.
