DDW's Daily Challenge Day 16 : Old

On a wander along the beach a while ago, Bob and I found lots of these marks on the huge slabs of rock along the shore. We spent a while looking at them and rubbing at them with wet fingers to see if the marks would come off or get bigger. They did neither and we came to the conclusion that they must be some kind of fossil. A few days later, on another walk we found this stone which has the marks on it. Its a nice shape and a good size - just over a foot long - and we decided that it would be a great thing to have somewhere in the house or in the garden, so we moved it somewhere it was easy for us to find again and returned next day with a rucksack to carry it in. Its a lot heavier than it looks and I was VERY glad to put it in the car.
I am still fairly certain it is a fossilised fern of some kind, but what ever it is, Bob and I really like it. And it is pretty old.
