Fascinating Fasciation

I clearly remember seeing a dandelion affected by fasciation in the paddock at the family home when I was child. I was fascinated then and I'm fascinated now by this example on a Linaria purpurea near the back door. I've been waiting until it comes into flower before photographing it.

It can be caused by genetic mutation, bacteria, virus or damage caused by frost, animals, insects or humans. The growing tip produces abnormal, flattened and often contorted or crested tissue. It didn't seem to bother this visiting bee.

PS I forgot to add an image to extras I took of a kestrel hovering when I had the camera set at quite a slow shutter speed after photographing a helicopter. I think it's a female.
