Making Lavash

This morning we visited Geghard Monastery but our first stop was for a view of Mt. Ararat, a holy mountain for the Armenians but, which is now in Turkey. Only the highest peak is visible. The monastery is partly hewn from the rock and contains a natural spring.

Back to Garni for the pagan temple built by Trdat I, then into a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to the symphony of stones and the gorge. Lunch is in the village but before we eat we have a lavash making demo.

After lunch we drive back to Yerevan to Matenadaran -the manuscript museum and research institute. The oldest date back to 9th and 10th century dedicated to a variety of subjects - theology, philosophy, history, arts, science and medicine. Exhibits include the largest book, The Homilies of Mush. A 28kg book which was made using 600 animal skins. The smallest one was a prayer book weighing only a few grams.

In the evening we walked to the Cascade for dinner.
