Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

A fun guy!

I had a day of contrasts today. The day started with a funeral. A 94 year old church member who died two weeks ago. His wife died in October so although obviously a loss, it was not a sad occasion. The circle of life rounded off in a fairly gentle and timeous way.
My blip is of a rather marvelous fungus I spotted on my way to the funeral tea.
The evening by contrast was spent celebrating our US friend's 70th birthday at the Vaults. All those present were either part of the St Andrews University population over the 70s or had a connecting to it.
We started with a whisky tasting, as we did both ten and six years ago, and then a delicious meal. The conversation flowed, assisted in part, no doubt, by the tasting before hand - the laughter never stopped. I've put an extra of C & I, rare to catch us both with a smile like that. In my case no doubt down to the very strong G&T I'd been served as a non whisky drinker.
The month they've been here seems to have passed very quickly, they leave us on Monday. It's just a shame it coincided with the final stages of the Rectory work and the interviews. Not that we let that hold us back.
