Everyday Life

Bomber Command, Canwick

The RAF Bomber Command centre at Canwick village, just out of Lincoln has been open for a few years now, but today was the first time I visited.

We only went in the grounds, which are free entry.  There's plenty to see and if you're local/visiting and are interested in the history of the RAF in the area, it's well worth a look. There's a restaurant and a coffee and cake tent too.

There is a temporary display featuring 20000 ceramic poppies surrounding a Lancaster aircraft* currently, up until the end of September, and part of it features in my Blip, looking over the city towards the cathedral. My shot doesn't do the display justice - you'd need a drone camera for that!

I've almost got my 10000 steps for today, but still have to go out to buy milk from the Co-op and have a long stand in the kitchen to make tomato and pepper soup. I miss the days when I just had to open a can and bung in the microwave!

We'll watch some rugby league later. Wigan beat Salford, as expected last night, as Salford are in dire straits financially. We brought in some youngsters, most of whom got on the score sheet including a hat trick for one of them. There were a lot of mistakes though, and have been for the last few weeks with full strength teams. That will need tightening up before they play better quality opponents.

*Not a real plane - more poppies arranged in the shape of a Lancaster!
