Around the Block

Breathe Deeply!

We were lucky to have the more exposed sections of our walks, today, happen between the heavy showers here in Brodick.

Coffee in bed, with bay views from the window, followed by a full Scottish breakfast, all in the Ormidale Hotel which we recommend in so many ways, not least that it has survived in the same family since the 1940s, and was tastefully renovated last year with character intact.

We walked out to Arran Aromatics in search of their shaving tablets of old and came away with shaving creams of new. As well as several Arran cheeses from another shop, co-located in the old Home Farm of the castle.

We followed the coastal walk home, rested bed-top before venturing out, post another bout of rain, along the front for a beer in the Douglas Hotel.

Brodick is alive with its Rugby Sevens Regional Tournament and Gay Pride weekend, as well as English families on Whitson break.

One synchronistic touch was the wonderful rainbow that appeared early evening to endorse Pride in Arran!

Another, for me, was entering the breakfast room to find tinned prunes and grapefruit segments on offer - my late mother’s favourite breakfast combination. She craved grapefruit when she was carrying me, sixty-five years ago!
