Five Years

I posted my first blip five years ago, basically commemorating the fact that I’d achieved my lockdown goal of running a 10K before I turned 60. And I made it with a day to spare. After that, I carried on running and even completed a 10K race with my sister - hence the shirt.
But it had all been at a cost - damaged calves, ankles, Achilles tendons and, finally, my right knee meant there was little regular running after October 2022. Sporadic attempts since then have usually ended in pain and requiring several weeks of rest before trying again.
For the last six months however, I have been working with my trainer to strengthen my knee and have not attempted any running. But with my trainer on holiday this week and a birthday imminent, I decided I’d try and achieve a 5K run before I turned 65. On Monday, I made sure the knee was well strapped before setting off and managed 3K No aches though. On Wednesday I tried for 4K and achieved 5K - again without any aches and pains. I’d always planned to do three runs this week, and went again today. Very pleased to manage another 5K. So that’s 10K (and a bit) achieved before I’m 65, albeit not all in one go.
I reckon that with a few days rest, and some more work on the strengthening exercises when I’m back in the gym next week, there shouldn’t be any reason why I can’t build up to running a 10K again…
