Stirling Castle and the Forth
We left Cockermouth for Aberdeen at around 11.00am intending to stop at Dundee for lunch. We quickly realised that would make lunch far too late so we made an impromptu decision on the road to stop in Stirling instead.
Not knowing where best to park we called in at one of the shopping centres for a comfort break after which we drove up to the Wallace Monument, parked there, ate lunch and had a coffee.
There wasn’t time to visit the tower so instead we tried to follow the Wallace Trail and the various trails around Abbey Craig. That was our undoing as the trails were poorly marked, one viewpoint obscured and the other shrouded in mist and heavy rain. We were glad to get back to the car.
Stirling will repay a visit in the future, to see the castle, city and town and not least Tweedy! Last time we were in Stirling was for the Last Dance, Runrig’s final concert in August 2018.
A wet and uneventful drive to Aberdeen where we’re staying overnight, meeting our friend Rosemary who we’re going to Shetland with.
An excellent meal at the Monsoona Indian which necessitated a longish walk afterward down to the beach to help settle the dinner
