Fort to Sea Trail

We hiked a gorgeous trail in Gearhart today called Fort to Sea. It runs from Sunset Beach to Fort Clatsop in Astoria (or vice versa). https://www.nps.gov/places/fort-clatsop-or.htm If you’re interested. The Lewis and Clark Expedition built an encampment here in 1805-06 and spent the winter here before their return trip to St. Louis.

We chose to descend the trail rather than ascend it - thank goodness since I was exhausted by the end! Gorgeous trail beginning in what felt like a rain forest today, descending through 600’ of elevation, down through lowland forests and then farmer’s fields and finally into the sandy scrubby woods at the beach.
