Making Paper

I was up at the loch again this afternoon and nothing new to report about the birds but this wasp was collecting wood pulp to add to its nest.

This common wasp, Vespula vulgaris, was on a fence and I could hear its jaws scraping on the fencepost.  That is what drew my attention to it.  I wonder how long their mandibes last before they get too blunted to scrape off any more?

There must be a nest somewhere around but at least it isn't in the birdhide.
