Rust never sleeps
Rust fungus gall on nettle: you can see the tiny star bursts created by the spore-producing 'cluster cups' or aecia.
Although I seem to be all blipped out at present I had an unexpected reminder t'other day of how potent these entries can be, even when apparently lying dormant like seeds or spores trapped in ice for vast spans of time.
A family who received an unexpected bequest following the demise of an unknown relative found on the internet my 2012 blips about the abandoned farmhouse that was home to that branch of the family of which they knew nothing. I was a little flummoxed to receive their email as I knew I had woven a story that did not shine a good light on the people concerned, however the family weren't bothered about that, they were just delighted to discover the information; my blip was a major breakthrough in their research they explained.
Following their contact I was able to direct them to a local history Facebook group where their enquiry has come up with more information and fresh leads to follow.
The sad old house has gone but my rusty old blip fossil has sparked fresh connections and new meanings in unexpected ways.
