My random garden. 7:56am

I like randomness in the flower borders, and lots of colour where possible. So it is never particularly ordered!
The two eldest grandchildren have been here this morning and we have had a great time watching the birds at the feeders, and in the bird bath.
We have two pairs of binoculars and they really enjoyed the spectacle at one point of the Starling family, parent and three youngsters all sitting in the bird bath splashing together!
The Great Spotted Woodpecker was a delight for them as he came at frequent intervals. I gave them my camera and they each had a turn taking photos, which I then downloaded onto my iPhone and sent each of them their pictures. Amongst the visitors were families of Goldcrests, and Bluetits. As well as squabbling House Sparrows. It was a good job I had replenished the feeders after breakfast.
Our eldest granddaughter has a House Martin nesting just above her bedroom window. She thought it was a Swallow so we researched them and she discovered the difference, and talked about the distances they fly to amazingly still come back to the same nest each year.
She came along with her journalling scrapbook and is now making a page about the birds.
Our eldest grandson said he had never seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker and loved it.
He and his grandad were also solving chess puzzles! (I would be useless at that!)
In amongst all that activity they each baked something, having been given the ingredients and the recipe.
Our grandson made some bread (with a bit of guidance from Master Baker grandad!), and his sister made a Marble cake. (photo in extras).
Before I was going to drive them home they decided we had to time the drive using a stopwatch.
The distance was found on Google maps, and then our grandson was going to calculate the average speed.
It was then suggested that I drive them home, and grandad drive back here, with me timing him, and vice versa!
We have sent the results to our grandson, and he will let us know.
When we pulled up on our drive again the time was exactly the same!
We’ve now had a bit of lunch and are going out for our walk. Usual circular.
It’s been warm and sunny so far with a brisk breeze.
I’ll catch up a bit with everyone later.
