Awnings and Yawnings

Yet another busy morning, with the new patio awning finally being installed. While Mark and his son Frank were busy doing that, the rubbish collector arrived to pick up the leftover detritus from the wardrobe unit fitting that was completed last Friday. As luck would have it, the old awning had just been taken down and put on the driveway next to the other stuff. The driver asked if I wanted him to take that as well - a no-brainer!! So I don’t even have the worry of how to get the (huge) old awning to the tip - result! Mark showed me how the remote controller worked, and demonstrated how the awning will retract itself if the wind gets too strong and buffets it a lot. One happy customer, and I will admit to making it extend and retract a few times from the comfort of the sofa indoors ;-)

On the downside, my cold has come out and I’m feeling pretty rotten and tired. After phoning my friend Mary with the big news about our Rector, and to put off visiting Hazel in her care home tomorrow, I promptly fell asleep for a good while. Despite having finished the very strange and dystopian book club novel last night, I reluctantly decided not to go along to the meeting with the ladies later on. One of them has endured a lot of serious health issues in the past year and, as with Hazel and her fellow residents, I just could not run the risk of passing this awful cold on. I wish now that I hadn’t gone to church yesterday, but I had felt okay then.

I’ve toyed with the idea of entering today’s blip into the Derelict Sunday challenge, as it includes the horrendously rusted patio set - quite a stark juxtaposition with the brand new awning. This is yet another project of mine on the all-too-long list. I’ve already got the sandpaper and Hammerite paint, it’s just a question of finding the time to do the required sanding and painting…

With everything going on recently, and not feeling at all well, I’ve kept getting behind with my own journal and comments on others. I’ll try to keep up, but with life currently running slightly out of control there are no guarantees…
