Anstruther

Off at 9:45 - our trip to Anstruther had been hijacked as it coincided with both the Bass Rock race and the Anstruther muster and this dragged a few other boats into the frame. Of course at the last moment several called off, but that still left four boats. The SK and myself, and three other skippers - and two keen inexperienced crew members who showed up to be accommodated.
One of these skippers (WM) is an old grizzled ex-Royal Scots sergeant, with a bit of an old boat, new to sailing and this boat (though he’d sailed dinghies in the distant past), and he took young TL along. Young TL isn’t the most able-bodied, and has a bit of a nervous disposition. I see trouble ahead… or, more positively, some learnings.
Anyway it was a fine blow down to Ainster; we came in third as could be predicted, and after a period rafted up in the bouncy outer harbour we were pointed to a pontoon berth -with electricity! Happiness indeed.
A get together down below for beers, then the SK and I went off and had the famous Anstruther Smoked battered haddock and chips and retired to our quarters. Though, as the legenday band, the Malconents, were playing in the marquee I had to go and tap my feet.
