The Long Slog*

Out the harbour at 7:40am into a moderate breeze coming exactly from our destination needless to say. Old WS snucked in behind us – we wanted to make sure he got out the harbour with no problems. Quite a fresh breeze at times and a biffy sea till we got past Fidra and reduced the fetch. Och yes. At Aberlady Bay we were called up on channel 16 – “yacht in Aberlady Bay, yacht in Aberlady Bay.. over.” Apparently that boat anchored up was a dive boat and we were in their 500m exclusion zone. I could have replied, sez who, but after a brief chat we were able to continue on our course. Like, doh.

Later, as we came to Leith I could hear another boat getting called up by the dive boat – “red yacht in Aberlady…” old WS of course. They tried calling him a few times before giving up. VHF Radio may be a bit beyond him.
Anyway, seven hours on that helm and I stayed around to meet the auld yin** when he made it back two hours later.
Time for the feet up and catch up with the news. Apparently we're not ready to fight a war! Who sez? Are you looking at me?

* OK, only 26.7 nm
** he’s four years older than me
