Scorecard

A day when the sun didn't shine as much as forecast but the team did. All the moving parts are working well. It only rained sixes. We hit no less than 16 of them, most very sweetly struck, over the pavilion and into the nearby field.

I enjoyed a morning Park Run and then a 30 mile cycle out to a secret and very beautiful part of Yorkshire that I know not at all. I quite enjoyed the flat roads, for once.

ALNE CALL IN THE BOMB SQUAD AS MILLER SETS THE FUSE ON HIS SEASON

I like to think of an opening partnership as just that - a partnership. A team within a team. So when Captain Six Fingers lost yet another toss and mind warped the Alne captain into bowling first with a 30 yard boundary to the pavilion, that blossoming team was called into action again.

81 for the first wicket and a combined 112 from 103 balls was the result. Now, the fine print will tell you Robbie did most of the heavy lifting here. But I'm sure he'd be the first to tell you he couldn't have done it without my words of wisdom between overs. Absolutely sure.

Some frankly alarming captaincy decisions led to Robbie being fed in the slot, over and over, and over and over again. After two overs their opening bowler was begging (only the slightest of embellishments here) to come off. By the end I think they were convinced he was an alien.

That end came at the hand of the only bowler to escape without brutal punishment. Indeed, the only one to come away with an economy rate below 7.

Robbie had to settle for 84 (off just 50 balls, you can do the math on my weedy contribution to the carnage) with 9 beefy sixes. He got out with 25 overs to go, hence his disappointment at missing out on what could have been many, many more.

With a platform to leap from, Tatts and Biggy took up the charge. Sixes continued to flow along with a steady stream of wickets as we pushed on towards 300. That looked unlikely until The Stallion strolled in and went 4666!! 27 off 8 balls and the fun only stopped with Alex made him think rather than 'See. Ball. Hit. Ball'.

We did end up all out again. But that disappointment was soothed by having 296 on the board.

Roam got an early one, Sion swaggered his way into a run out with a direct hit and to be honest that really was that. Putting up 296 does give you a bit of leeway with the ball, which we needed.

It's going to be a short one here as I'm running late to take the dogs out. Roam continued to take wickets with his unique brand of American Football energy. Stu and Al chipped away and despite a few bombs of their own, they never really looked that interested in chasing it down. A throwback to the days of Division Three when we'd rack up a silly total and then be bored to tears.

The only real downer of the day was when Lewis took the final, tumbling catch and somehow fractured his finger in two places. It was hard to take him too seriously as he walked in pointing at the piece of bone sticking out of his finger with all the emotion of a man who had just chipped a nail.

So, onwards we go, with another to pack the terraces. The ones are in action again tomorrow evening in the cup if you want to get down and support. Watching mine and Robbie's equally as entertaining ball striking should not be missed.
