Yawn if You Like
If the blipper EllyJay offers me a hurl in a car to Kirkwall, how could I possibly refuse even if I was there just 2 days ago? It was especially acceptable because it was another extremely windy day with showers of rain sweeping in at regular intervals. Set off time was 10:15am but first there was the small matter of the dip at 8am which always seems to go ahead however bad the conditions. The wind was a force to be reckoned with when trying to get dressed and the smirr of drizzle added to the general feeling of living on the wild side.
There were only 3 small cruise ships in Kirkwall today and so it didn’t feel overly crowded. I spent most of my time in Shearer’s, the shop that sells absolutely everything except clothing. It’s like the Harrod’s of the Northern Isles. I was particularly delighted to find a packet of Westray ‘Fattie Cutties’, soft flat round biscuits, bursting with calories and raisins.I’ve been hunting for them for 4 years ever since I tasted them on Westray, but could never find them on the Mainland.
.
I dodged the showers this afternoon to go for a wander along by the harbour looking to photograph something that I haven’t photographed before and it’s almost impossible. My blip today taken from Sutherland’s Pier has graced these pages practically every year since 2011 but is still in pole position in my choice of blips today. You are forgiven for yawning at the repetition.
