Under Cover
After an early morning swim I visited the Wolseley Centre, run by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. I'd hoped to see kingfishers, but on arriving and chatting to one of the staff I understand their nest was inundated with flood water earlier in the year and as a result there have been many fewer sightings this year.
Still I had a walk around and was struck by one of the bird's song. It was from the bird in the extra, a Cetti's warbler (Cettia Cetti). I do wonder if this is a juvenile, as he seems a bit scruffy compared to the images I've checked on the internet.
It would probably be the blip of the day but I was taken by this duck and duckling, settled down next to the main entrance to the centre and apparently not for moving despite the constant human traffic. I'm not sure how many ducklings were under her wings, this one only popped its head out for a few moments before returning to the cover of her spread wings.
After lunch I met up with a lady about to take on a Guiness World Record attempt. I will be the official photographer on the day so we had a dry run this afternoon to make sure we have everything ready. More next week.
